About

My name is Erik Deci. I'm a veteran, a yoga practitioner, a gym junkie, aspiring biohacker, and a writer, and this is where I tell the truth about my life.
I left home when I was young, and a few years later, I found myself in the Army, deployed to Iraq. I came back carrying things I didn't have words for yet. I spent fifteen years in New York trying to outrun them. I made friends there who felt like family, and I buried some of them.
When I decided my time was done in New York, I put my notice in on my East Village apartment, sold or gave away almost everything I owned, and flew to Italy with one small bag. I got my yoga teacher certification in Tuscany, walked Rome alone, and then started over in Miami.
This site exists because I'm done keeping secrets. I write about war and what comes after. About the people I've lost and the ones I let down. About anger, and what it takes to put it down. I'm working on a few memoirs, and the essays here are pieces of that work, written one honest story at a time.
Everything here is free to read, and I want to keep it that way. If something here hit home, you can help me keep going. Your support buys me time to write, finish my memoirs, and keep this site open to anyone who needs it.
Thanks for being here.
